A more personal take on the school shooting issue, and how the Amish School Shooting will affect even small daycares.
After the tragic shootings in the one-room school house in Lancaster Pennsylvania, a great many of us questioned: "are we doing enough to protect our children?" An Amish school was perhaps the last place that anyone expected an incident like this to take place. However, that seems to be so because we have expected the danger to come from within. We have looked at the numerous shootings in recent years and seen that predominately they have come from students that have been ostracized and abused by their families and fellow students. They come seeking revenge. The truth is-- we have been fighting the wrong enemy. We are protecting our children against other children, and so thought that the innocence of the Amish children-- their insulation from the outside influences of Grand Theft Auto and "that rap music" would keep them safe from developing the same inner demons.
What is really killing our kids is not other students, it is hate and it is pain and it is isolation and it is fear-- all things which teenagers do not have a monopoly on.
