» Irene Taylor - Wacky guidelines!

Hi Carrie,

Well, wacky is a great way to describe it! Not being able to walk in certain areas, teacher-student ratios that change with the locations, milk "expiration" dates - all very strange! I guess those who make these rules know what they are doing, but you've got to wonder....

Excellent and thought-provoking article!

Irene

In response to Wacky guidelines! posted by gitaylor:

There are some wacky guidelines! I find it annoying my daycare has to change our twins' diapers every two hours, whether they are wet or not, sleeping or not, etc. I said the state can pay for all our wasted diapers then! I get they don't want a poor kid sitting in a wet or dirty diaper, but then the law should state they must immediately change a wet or dirty diaper... or must check the diaper every two hours.

As far as the milk goes, though, it isn't all that weird. When you open milk (or any food), the expiration date on it no longer matters. You will still need to use it within a certain number of days. I'm not sure it needs to be two with milk (I'm fairly certain I've gone longer than that)... but you can't just leave it open until the expiration date. To test, try buying milk that doesn't expire for a long time (or deli meat)... then open it and come back at the expiration date. It should be pretty nasty by then! heheheh...
