I share your feelings. I think there is a definite need for quality child care options 24/7 due to parents having any variety of needs for said care. However, I have the same misgivings you mentioned - the main one being parental abuse of such an option. Regardless of the quality of care, there is no replacement for quality time spent with a child's own family. I have spent many years in the child care profession, but I haven't had any experience with 24 hour care. I was blessed to not need 24 hour care when my own sons were growing up, but I do see a definite need by many hard-working families today. I know during my 25+ years in Early Learning there has always been some degree of 24 hour care available, but I suspect it hasn't been quality care, in general. I would hope today's offerings are much improved. It would be great to hear about such choices around the country. We are hoping to share this type of thing at ChildCares.com.
